History of Italy

Italian in Italy
From the Alps in the North, across the plains of Lombardy, through great historic cities and down to the Mediterranean shore of Sicily, Italy is a land of variety and beauty. So, too, is the Italian language. Synonymous with opera, literature and romance, Italian is a pleasure to speak and a joy to hear. From the days of ancient Rome to modern times, Italy has played a central role in world history and culture and today approximately 57 million people speak Italian. Italians have been responsible for some of the world's most admired sculpture, architecture, painting, literature and music. The country plays its part in the modern world of design and fashion, with tourism, engineering and textiles as its major industries. On a less cultured note there are also some fantastic shopping opportunities and incredible ice creams to be consumed!

All of the CESA Italian language college locations have huge appeal to a wide range of language students. Why not study Italian in Florence, renowned for its wonderful churches, the Uffizzi and palaces, as well as trattorias and cafes. If you want a larger city destination, consider Milan or Rome, home to the Vatican, Coliseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain and many elegant shops.
Siena, a mediaeval city surrounded by picturesque olive groves and the vineyards of Chianti is a delight, as is San Giovanni if you want somewhere quieter.
Viareggio and Sorrento offer an abundance of coastal charm. Venice of course is a wonder in its own right.

Whichever Italian location you choose you can check out the clubs, cafes or fabulous restaurants, according to your taste, and you will find plenty of opportunities to practise your Italian with local people.
