In addition to the main teaching buildings the campus also offers:

the common room / coffee shop - located in a traditional wooden-beam Japanese house that has been renovated to include a coffee shop and a common room for language students. Open from 8am to 8pm Mondays to Saturdays (offering snacks, breakfasts and lunches). This shop is Japanese language only - it also serves as a coffee shop for many local residents - so its a good chance to put your Japanese into real-world practice. At the rear of the house there is a Japanese style tatami mat room. This common room serves as a meeting place where students can organize parties, study Japanese or just hang out with friends. It is often used as a venue for cultural exchange activities, as well as being the meeting place for the Okazaki International Interchange Centre - which organizes a number of activities as well as the homestay programme

student bar - There is live music, movie nights, sake tasting, live sports on the big screen, an extensive menu and the cheapest prices in town. Since it opened, the food and beverage menu has expanded nearly every week (offering quick, well priced lunches and evening meals + pizzas and BBQ's!). The beer list is long and they have an impressive whiskey selection to sample

bike area -  there is a covered shelter for bicycles on campus. Car parking is also available for students who choose/need to drive to the Institute for their classes, however the bicycle is the preferred means of transport for most. As many students study until late the bicycle stand is well lit at night for safety

smoking coutryard - outdoors and available for those who still indulge

basket ball hoop - at championship height so good for a little post grammar lesson exercise.  Generally possible to get a 3 or 3 game going during lunch breaks

In the local area:
The campus is located in a quiet residential area only 6 minutes walk from the main JR Okazaki station and there is a hospital next door and a large supermarket (with a McDonalds in case you need a burger and chips some time, just 10 minutes away on foot)

local parks -  one of the advantages of living and studying in Okazaki is the large number of parks and amount of greenery. Compared to large cities such as Tokyo or Osaka, life in Okazaki is not only cheaper, but more relaxed. There are a large number of opportunities for outdoor recreation and private space. Akatsuki Park is just a short 2 minute walk from the the long term course building. It's a small suburban park with enough space for a football game etc. It's also an ideal spot for eating a bentou (packed lunch) during the break for lunch with shady trees and park benches

Just 20 minutes by bike from the well known Okazaki Castle and the historic centre of the city. For students, Okazaki City is safer, cheaper and quieter than crowded cities like Tokyo or Osaka, and more suited for study and a taste of the traditional Japan. Okazaki is a low-cost city. It is very important for Japanese language students that rents are less than half that of equivalent accommodation in Tokyo and this is reflected in everything from the cost and spaciousness of the school accommodation to groceries, entertainment and of course tuition fees. One look at the Okazaki Japanese programmes will quickly dispel any notion that studying in Japan has to be expensive. There is absolutely no need to spend Tokyo or Osaka prices or to have the burden of commuting fares and time in order to study Japanese in Japan. Read more about Okazaki in the location guide.

The busiest study periods of the year are the summer months, CESA recommends that you book your Japanese course three/four months in advance, longer if you want to apply for a Student Visa (ask CESA) or prefer host based accommodation. The multilingual staff are always on hand should you have any questions once on your course. The School teachers are all native speakers of Japanese, with University degrees, who specialise in teaching Japanese as a second language, many of whom have worked abroad teaching before coming to Okazaki.
