Spanish methodology 

Of course you will cover the four core skills, in order to develop all the essential Spanish language skills. The curriculum is structured on six theoretical language levels, with a natural duration of between four and six weeks at each level.

The methodology is the result of years of experience in teaching Spanish. Special importance is given to the communicative aspect of the language and its use in everyday life. For this reason, the college encourages students to speak Spanish in class, and whenever possible out of class as well.
To ensure you fully participate and make maximum progress the Spanish school in Cuernavaca limits the group class size to 5 students.

Lessons are based on the communicative approach, which ensures you will be able to use your new skills almost immediately. You will acquire new vocabulary and the skills to handle real-life situation, learn grammatical structures, build speaking and listening skills and develop reading and writing skills. The point is to activate your linguistic knowledge and audio-visual aids are used to keep the learning process exciting and to aid assimilation.

A student of average linguistic ability should allow at least four weeks to complete the Beginner or Elementary level, covering key conversational abilities and basic grammar structure to enable students to communicate in everyday situations.

Approximately four weeks will be required to complete each of the Intermediate levels (the subjunctive is introduced during the Intermediate levels).

An additional 8 weeks covers the Advanced level. In reality students chose to attend a short course or a longer "Languages for Life" course, according to their linguistic goals, personal wishes and time constraints.

Intensive Spanish Language Class (3 hrs.)
After taking a brief entrance exam and oral interview with a Spanish tutor, students are placed in small groups according to their previous level of Spanish fluency, their ability to communicate, and their interests. The Spanish school in Cuernavaca works on a Mini Group class basis, in which no more than 5 students are assigned to a tutor. This guarantees that students receive the attention they need and encourages interaction among the group. This class focuses on 4 main skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Latin American or Grammar Courses (2 hrs.)
This is a flexible option that allows the students to choose from an assortment of classes in the following areas of study: Art, Business, Education, History, Latin-American Studies, Linguistics, Literature, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, and Spanish grammar.

Cultural Lectures, Idiomatic Expressions or Conversation (1 hr.)
This component is designed to improve students' listening and conversational Spanish Language skills and cultural awareness by corrected discussions on topics like holidays, festivities, and family life. Students are encouraged to compare and contrast their own culture with their experiences in Mexico. Students are taught idiomatic expressions that will help them interact and better understand the culture in which they are immersed.

Optional Classes
The Spanish school in Cuernavaca offers several optional classes in the afternoon at no extra cost.  These classes provide additional enrichment and better understanding of the Spanish language. Classes range from pronunciation to advanced grammar and/or conversation workshop. Once a week you may also request a session of individual attention in grammar to work on areas of need.  Classes are available Monday through Thursday from 2:20 PM to 4:00 PM.

Private Study :
Written homework is set to complement the course for all levels!

First Day:

Things are done differently in Cuernavaca!
We want you in the school for the induction and language assessment on SATURDAY, before lessons begin on Monday.  So CESA will arrange accommodation from the Friday evening for you.  If you want to discuss this in more detail, please contact the CESA office.
