Learn a Language

Student Reports: Alicante

Nadine spent 2 weeks on an Intensive Course in Alicante in July with CESA, hear what Nadine has to say about the time she spent in Alicante:

“I expected a well structured Spanish course with both language and cultural elements to give me the ability and confidence to teach KS2/3/4 Spanish to UK students. Also the fact I opted for to stay with a family hopefully would give me an extra boost in terms of Spanish/everyday life.
I feel that the experience surpassed my expectations. All the teachers and lessons were excellent, I met some great people on the course and my family were wonderful.

The lessons had great interaction and a good mix of content. The reception staff were very friendly, the school was modern, comfortable and I always had time to check emails.

The best parts of the course were; my host family, my teacher (Yolanda), meeting people, getting into the the Spanish way of life and the second week went I noticed my Spanish had really improved.
The worst part was leaving!

Some of the students I met on the course will be friends for life and I hope to meet them again on my travels or any future course I may choose to take. Social activities were arranged independently between students. Buses, trams, finding your way on foot was all very easy.

I really liked Alicante; everything is very reasonably prices, very cheap Happy hour at Desden (until 12pm), good shops and markets, lovely beach at San Juan. I felt safe especially at night, but my host mother always told me to be accompanied at night. Local people were friendly.

The big piece of advice would be to ask someone to watch your things at the beach or go with other people and leave someone in charge if you go swimming. San Juan beach via Alicante tram is lovely and El Corte Ingles is always a winner. The cinema in the port is good and students should definitely go out for Tapas and paella.

I was delighted with my host family, Immaculada. They were very welcoming and I ended up calling my host mother ‘mama’. Excellent food, conversation, got on with daughters really well. I went to a local market with them, watched TV/films, ate together as a family. Highly recommended for any female student doing a course on their own.

CESA Languages Abroad were very helpful, I had immediate feedback and help, and very prompt information pack prior to learning. I wish I had stayed for 3 weeks but commitments at work got in the way. I would certainly go again and have already recommended CESA to others.”
